A Drive Down Memory Lane...

Happy Childhood Memories...

Yesterday my mother and I took a drive through the Fraser Valley neighbourhood where I spent the first 16 years of my life. As we drove slowly down our street, we named almost every family that had lived there at one time or another- " Oh yes, the H's lived there and they had a pond in the backyard.." and so on down the road.
We were surprised to see our former home for sale. It's held up pretty well. Asking price? Over 400K ! My parents purchased it in 1958 for 16 thousand dollars!
We drove down the lane behind our home where I stopped and took this photo of 'my' maple tree. Dad planted it when they moved in and, as a child in the 60s my friends and I would spend many, many happy hours climbing it , hanging upside down from its branches, and only occasionally falling from it.
The neighbourhood was, and I hope still is a wonderful place for children. There was a huge park and playground behind our home, and a slow flowing river( actually river is too kind a word, more like a slough, but we didn't care) across the street. In winter we would toboggan down the river bank jumping off just before we came to the water's edge. I don't think my parents knew we did that! They would have totally freaked!
What are some of your special childhood memories?
