November 22 marks the birthday of my beautiful mother, now living in a complex care residence. She is the loveliest woman I know.
Her birthday always brings up my first really clear childhood memory.
Her 40th birthday was Nov 22, 1963. I was just 4 years old but I recall everyone being so sad and shocked as they gathered at our home on that Friday evening for what was supposed to be a joyful celebration. JFK had been shot .
I remember asking my mommy why, if this was her birthday, were all these people so unhappy? She explained what happened in a simple way appropriate for a young child .
I remember it as if it happened yesterday.
JFK's death, and my mother's birthday will forever be intertwined.
JFK are also my father's initials which made it even more strange.
